Sailing Course Objectives Experience

The professional skipper course lasts for a full 14 days, during which you will sail from Northern Adriatic to Central and Southern Adriatic waters. The course consists of theoretical and practical education but also reveals the secrets of the authentic Croatian sea life.

In 14 days, you will sail approximately 300 nautical miles of navigation both day and night, and gain the experience necessary to be a professional skipper.

Completing the course will make you ready to sail in favorable and less favorable weather conditions. You will visit famous Croatian tourism destinations, but also peek into less known spots of the Croatian coast. Once we set sail from Istria, you will initially discover the islands of Lošinj, Unije, and Susak, further sailing to breathtaking Kornati National Park and heading south towards islands of Vis, Hvar, Brač, and Šolta. The professional skipper course will make you ready to turn your passion for sailing into a professional job. 

What You Will Learn

Boat maneuvering:

  • Mooring of the boat, by stern and flank
  • Departure from the mooring site, secluded and between other boats
  • Approaching dock, by stern and bow
  • Various anchoring techniques
  • Tying the mooring buoy

Navigational skills:

  • Meteorology
  • Map using knowledge
  • Navigation plan and course specification
  • Work on navigational instruments

Safety:

  • Inspection and location of on board first aid
  • Most common injuries and avoidance methods
  • Safety at sea
  • Every day practical work on VHF radio station

Mechanical problems solving:

  • Introduction to the main characteristics of the ropulsion system
  • Motor and propulsion system control
  • The most common problems on the ship’s systems and their resolution
  • The most common problems with sailing and their resolution
  • Working on the anchor winch
  • Avoiding the most common boat damages

Skipper's skills:

  • The rights, responsibilities and duties of the skipper
  • Trimming sails
  • Nodes
  • Preparing a boat for navigation
  • Introduction to the Sailing rules
  • Check in, check out boat
  • Communication with crew
