The basic course is a seven-day intermediate sailing school. During the course, you will sail in the waters around Pula and nearby islands of the northern Adriatic.
After testing your theoretical and practical knowledge, sometimes even in less favorable weather conditions, you will be ready to sail independently as a skipper.

Beginners Sailing Course Experience

During the three-day beginner course, you will set sail on the southeast Istrian coast. The course is carefully curated to give you the necessary knowledge for independent sailing.

You will reside on the boat accompanied by your instructor and sail on around the waters of Pula, the Kamenjak cape, and the Brijuni National Park.

About the Beginners course

You are dreaming about sailing holidays and now you have decided to start planning to rent a yacht during your next vacation, but you feel like you’re still lacking some confidence and practical knowledge.

By the end of the course, you will master the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge for independent sailing. No previous sailing experience is required to attend the beginner course. 

The course consists of a theoretical and practical part performed simultaneously during 7 days. No prior sailing experience is required for attending the course

What You Will Learn

Boat maneuvering:

  • Mooring of the boat, by stern and flank
  • Departure from the mooring site, secluded and between other boats
  • Approaching dock, by stern and bow
  • Various anchoring techniques
  • Tying the mooring buoy

Navigational skills:

  • Meteorology
  • Map using knowledge
  • Navigation plan and course specification
  • Work on navigational instruments

Safety:

  • Inspection and location of on board first aid
  • Most common injuries and avoidance methods
  • Safety at sea
  • Every day practical work on VHF radio station

Mechanical problems solving:

  • Introduction to the main characteristics of the ropulsion system
  • Motor and propulsion system control
  • The most common problems on the ship’s systems and their resolution
  • The most common problems with sailing and their resolution
  • Working on the anchor winch
  • Avoiding the most common boat damages

Skipper's skills:

  • The rights, responsibilities and duties of the skipper
  • Trimming sails
  • Nodes
  • Preparing a boat for navigation
  • Introduction to the Sailing rules
  • Check in, check out boat
  • Communication with crew
